Categorization is odious. There is tremendous overlap among genres. These pigeonholes are offered only as a convenience.

One of the most prolific writers of fantasy novels. Although often uncredited (particularly in the early work) his wife, Leigh, has also been instrumental in the development of the stories.

Most of the stories are multi-volume epics. The Belgariad and the Mallorean series (ten books in total) follow the stories of Garion, Ce'Nedra, Belgareth the sorcerer and his daughter Polgara the sorceress. The Elenium and Tamuli trilogies follow Sparhawk's adventures and the search for the magic gem 'Bhelliom'. Not to mention that there are the 'stand-alone' novels, the prequels and the non-fantasy novels too. A good place to start is the Belgariad - and just read from there.
