Born in Rochester, New York, Charles endured a stint in the US Army as part of the 3rd Infantry's Old Guard. As a demonstration of the Army's sense of humor and appreciation of irony, Charles was awarded a good conduct medal. Thanks to his friends in the military, the only clear memory he has of that time is meeting his lovely wife, Rose.
Using money pilfered from the Defense Department, Charles attended Nazareth College (BS History/Education) and Brockport State University (MA Liberal Studies). He taught high school social studies with the Rochester City School District for ten years (Edison Tech, School Without Walls) before he and his wife moved to Kuwait to teach at the American International School and to open a speakeasy. After four wonderful years in Kuwait and a year in Trinidad & Tobago (Paradise on Earth), Charles and Rose returned - kicking and screaming - to Rochester.
Charles currently works for Dixon Schwabl Advertising, pumping out focused and compelling advertising copy that drives consumers into a buying frenzy. He is also the host of the award winning Smart Set, Jazz 90.1's weekly spin with the swing scene. (Saturday's from 5-6, 90.1 FM in Rochester, live on the Internet at jazz901.org)
The Benoits have traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and South East Asia, Charles in search of alluring locales for his stories, Rose in search of the perfect phat thai recipe. Relative Danger , Charles' first novel, is an around the world adventure that takes place in Toronto, Casablanca, Cairo, Bahrain, Singapore and exotic Pottsville, PA. His newest novel, Out of Order , a mystery-adventure set in India, was published by Poisoned Pen Press in February, 2006.
