This is what appears at the back of "The Ape Who Guards the Balance" ... "Elizabeth Peters was born and brought up in Illinois, and earned her Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago's famed Oriental Institute. An Agatha Award-winning author, Ms. Peters was named Grandmaster in the inaugural Anthony Awards in 1986, and Grandmaster by the Mystery Writers of America at the Edgar Awards in 1998. In 1990 she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Hood College. A frequent lecturer at museums and libraries, she lives in an historic farmhouse in Frederick, Maryland, with six cats and two dogs. Her newest Amelia Peabody mystery, The Falcon at the Portal, will be available in hardcover shortly."
