I just read my first Jonathan Carroll. At the recommendation of a clerk in a book store, I started with "The Land of Laughs." It was terrific, and certainly made me want to read more. In "The Land of Laughs," a young English teacher gets the chance to write about the children's author whose work he has adored since childhood. It is a witty, playfully imaginative, and intellectually bracing book, with vivid characters whose story draws you in at once. There may be better starts, but this is a good one.

I loved The Land of Laughs, as I do all of Jonathan Carroll's books. However, the first one I read, and the one that got me hooked on his writing, was Bones of the Moon. It struck me as so different from anything else I'd read. It just sucked me right in. I've been a Jonathan Carroll fan ever since.

I am currently reading Jonathan Carroll's "The Wooden Sea" thanks to SqueakyChu's bookcrossing bookray. I really love this story and this author's voice and can't wait to read more by him.
