The Sparrow was a wonderful ride that I have recommended countless times to my friends. The ending is slightly disappointing, but the world that Ms. Russell creates is mesmerizing.
Children of God is the sequel to The Sparrow. It isn't as strong in some respects, though it does have better payoff. If, after reading The Sparrow, you do not want to say good-bye to the characters, read this.

I just finished reading A Thread of Grace, and I would have to say that it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. It's easy to see why it took Mary so long to write it because she was dealing with such an intricate and sensitive topic as World War II and how the simplest of peasants stood up to the powers that be. Everything about it rings true. If you love historical fiction and Italy and characters you won't soon forget, then I urge you to read this.

The Sparrow: simply the most fascinating book I've ever read. The most intricate character development, grappling with the big questions of life on earth (and beyond!). A lesson in good intentions gone wrong. Makes you think!
