"Silent Witness" is one of my all-time favorite thrillers. Keeps you guessing until the end. I've read a couple others of his since then, but didn't feel they were quite as gripping as S.W.

I personally preferred "The Kite Runner" over "A Thousand Splendid Suns", but I've heard others say just the opposite. Regardless, both books are very well written and emotionally-charged.
about Jonathan Safran Foer 2008-07-06 21:25:08
LOL! I actually DID read those two books at the same time purely by coincidence (ELIC and The History of Love), one on audio & one in book form, not realizing the authors were married to one another until I was about halfway through. I would actually recommend NOT doing it that way, as I kept getting each book confused with the other, due to the fact that they were so similar. I would, however, someday like to reread both of them (just not at the same time!). :')
about Augusten Burroughs 2008-07-06 08:54:19
While Running With Scissors is probably Burroughs' most well-known work, I found the less-known Dry also very good. It has a perfect blend of humor and seriousness and further expanded my opinion that Burroughs is a very good author. Whether you liked or disliked Scissors, you should certainly seek out Dry, as I think it would be difficult to not like that one.
about Dan Brown 2008-07-06 08:46:49
It really goes to show how different readers have different opinions. I personally very much enjoyed both The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons (and it seems most people either love them or don't), but then was very disappointed in Deception Point, which I felt was very much a typical, run-of-the-mill type thriller and just didn't hold my interest like the other two.

I received The Story of Forgetting as an advanced reader copy and fell in love with this author's debut novel. I'm somewhat surprised it has not received more publicity, as I highly recommend it and look forward to future works by this author.
about Ronlyn Domingue 2007-09-30 07:08:52
At the time I write this, "A Mercy of Thin Air" is currently Domingue's only novel to date. I came across this title somewhat randomly, but absolutely fell in love with this hauntingly, beautiful love story. I liken it to a combination of "The Time Traveler's Wife", "The Lovely Bones", and the movie "Ghost", all of which are favorites of mine. It surprises me that this book has not gotten more attention, as I believe it justly deserves it.

Although I'm not familiar with any of the author's other works, "Snow Flower..." was an excellent read. I look forward to other novels by this author.
about Alice Sebold 2007-03-17 22:57:03
I've read both "Lucky" and "The Lovely Bones." Both include rape as a topic ("Lucky" is the author's memoir about her own rape experience; "The Lovely Bones" does not center on rape, but does include it in the storyline). Despite this, the books are very different from one another. I liked both, but preferred the latter. I've known people to prefer the former, and those who enjoy both equally. So if you've read one & whether you liked it or not, I'd give the other a try as well.

"The Time Traveler's Wife" is wonderful. I can't say enough good things about this book. I didn't want it to end.

about Dry by Augusten Burroughs 2006-11-23 21:22:52
Great book! You might get a little more out of this and better understand a few of the references if you read "Running With Scissors" first, but it would stand alone as a great book too. Augusten Burroughs knows how to mix seriousness with humor in just the right combination.
about Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs 2006-11-23 21:20:34
This one's pretty crazy, but in an enjoyable way. "Dry" is somewhat of a sequel, which was even better, in my opinion.
about Deception Point by Dan Brown 2006-11-23 21:18:14
I really enjoyed "The DaVinci Code", then read this one. I never would've guessed it was the same author. This one was what I'd consider a very typical thriller, and not a great one at that. Overall quite disappointed in this one.
about A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson 2006-11-23 21:14:55
Though many readers really enjoyed this one, this was my first Bryson book, and I had to force myself to finish it. I was ready to dismiss him as an author, but then read another ("I'm a Stranger Here Myself") and really enjoyed that one. So sometimes second chances do make a difference!
